Her drawing comes first
The curious shapes, crayon colours, and little surprises remain the heart of each character.
DRAW-TO-PLAY · A FAMILY SIDE PROJECT
A father building hardware with AI saw his daughter’s drawing and wanted to make her happy. Draw-to-Play grew from that moment: an agent workflow that brings hand-drawn characters into 3D and motion.

HOW IT BEGAN
Hao-Yen was busy working on chips, boards, and mechanical designs with AI. His daughter’s drawing gave him a different kind of brief: bring her imagination to life and make her happy. He connected AI agents and creative tools to turn her painted characters into 3D designs and animations. That is how this small side business began.
The curious shapes, crayon colours, and little surprises remain the heart of each character.
The same care that connects hardware design tools connects a sketch to shape and motion.
A personal project grows into a way for families to see a child’s imagination come alive.
THE IDEA
A child's sketch already has personality. Draw-to-Play explores that character as a toy-scale 3D form and as a short animation. The idea is to let children meet the characters they imagined, in shape and motion.
The drawing's shapes, colours, and little surprises lead the design.
A 3D study shows how the character looks from a new angle.
Short animation loops let the character move while keeping its drawn personality.
HOW IT WORKS
Follow a character from the original drawing to a 3D study and an animation.
Meet the character
Begin with the shapes and colours that make the drawing distinctive.
01
Explore the shape
Imagine how the character looks beyond the front of the page.
02
Build a 3D view
Give the character a toy-scale form that can be seen from another angle.
03
Add motion
Turn the character into a short repeating animation.
04
THE PROJECT
Recorded demonstration — original drawings become digital character studies and short animation recordings, with a person selecting and reviewing the results.
Compare the source drawings with their 3D views and animated outputs. Recorded frame reviews identify changes in proportions and some abrupt loop transitions; the examples show digital studies rather than fabricated toys or a live self-service product.
Every example begins with a character drawn by hand.
The model views explore how those characters might look with depth.
Short moving studies give the characters another way to express themselves.
SELECTED EXAMPLES
Three original drawings sit beside software views of their 3D character studies.
See the shapes and colours that started each character.
Explore how the character reads in a three-dimensional view.
Imagine the drawing as a small object with shape and depth.
